Structural integrity, compromised by the effects of corrosion, is a major concern of our infrastructure. Chloride induced corrosion is a major form of chemical attack on existing structures. The Federal Highway Administration has stated that cathodic protection is the “only rehabilitation technique proven to stop corrosion in salt-contaminated structures, regardless of chloride content”.
The LifePanel®system, offered by Jarden Zinc Products, is a galvanic cathodic protection solution designed to protect affected reinforced concrete structures in “dry zones”, or those areas not in wet areas or splash zones. Specifically, this innovative solution targets inland structures that have become saturated with chlorides from salt laden air or from deicing salts.
From the makers of the LifeJacket® system, the LifePanels® function as thin, surface-mounted anodes that provide uniform corrosion protection over large areas. The LifePanel® has been documented to satisfy NACE RP0290 100mV polarization criteria, and to be freeze-thaw resistant.
The LifePanel® system is an engineered product containing Jarden Zinc Products’ high purity zinc mesh anode encased in a proprietary conductive mortar. The conductive mortar is formulated to optimize the performance of the zinc anode to provide 25+ years of consistent protective current to the reinforcing steel. The LifePanel® system can be sized to project specifications and is installed using a simple “trowel and stick” method or adapted for use as a form on structures with severe spall damage.
