ZINC STRIP
Jarden Zinc Products Advantages
Jarden Zinc Products is the largest producer of zinc strip and zinc strip products in North America. With over 350,000 square feet (32,500 square meters) of manufacturing space, Jarden has the capability to cast and roll 120,000 metric tons of finished strip annually. The zinc strip produced by Jarden is specified in a wide variety of applications, including coins, fuses, roofing, rain goods, plumbing fixtures, braille printing plates and cathodic protection products.
Using only 99.995% pure special high grade zinc, Jarden crafts alloys through the precise introduction of titanium, copper, magnesium, manganese and other metals. The alloy specified will be determined based on the customer’s individual requirements. The alloys are then continuously cast and rolled into solid zinc strip to gauges ranging from 0.0045 inches (0.1143 mm) to 0.375 inches (9.525 mm).
To insure compliance with customer expections, our quality control technicians continuously monitor a variety of metallurgical parameters. Our ISO 9001 registered facility tests for tensile strength, hardness, elongation and ductility. Jarden can also customize an inspection plan to meet the specific requirements of individual customers.
As a benefit to our customers, Jarden Zinc Products operates a modern service center with state-of-the-art slitting equipment. In our service center, we can slit our 28.00 inch (710 mm) wide coils to any length our customers desire with packaging options to meet most requirements. This service improves yields and allows our customers to better manage their inventory and ultimately reduce cost.
The versatility of solid zinc strip makes it ideal for a large variety of applications. The flexibility and formability of zinc strip make it readily adaptable to various traditional and modern uses that may require complex shapes and forms. The natural beauty and beneficial characteristics of zinc make it an ideal solution for many products.
Solid zinc strip possesses unique electrical properties that make it suitable for a number of electrical and electronic applications, such as automotive fuses, electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) shielding, lead frames and counterpoise grounding.
Without solid zinc strip, your car would not start, your headlights would not shine and your stereo would not play. That’s why all of today’s major manufacturers of automotive fuses incorporate solid zinc strip in their products.
EMI/RFI can cause damage to sensitive electronic circuits and shielding is the most effective means of protection. Solid zinc strip is an effective shielding material. Zinc possesses good electrical conductivity and can be readily formed into intricate shapes and designs at varying gauges to provide the necessary fit and electrical connection required for effective shielding. Zinc strip produces a burr-free stamping, eliminating the risk of metal particle contamination of circuit boards. many of our alloys also have been formulated to exactly match the coefficient of thermal expansion of popular printed circuit board materials, virtually eliminating solder joint failure at the point of connection.

Zinc Strip Advantages

Given its versatility, it’s not surprising to find solid zinc strip in a wide variety of other industrial applications.
When used in terrazzo flooring and stained glass window construction, solid zinc strip becomes part of the art of architecture transforming creative images into reality. Reflecting artistry and functionality, solid zinc strip has been used for centuries in the fabrication of majestic organ pipes. Braille printing plates made from solid zinc strip help the blind to read by creating a very pronounced embossing that will not tear or stain paper during the printing process. The self-annealing properties of solid zinc strip allow these plates to be used repeatedly for many years.
The construction industry builds with solid zinc strip when high quality and superior performance are required. Corner beads and expansion joints produced from solid zinc strip will not red rust like steel and provide and excellent substrate for exterior stucco and interior plaster.
The automotive industry has specified solid zinc strip for exterior trim, suspension systems and for electrical circuit protection. Chrome plated zinc strip moldings are arguably the most aesthetically pleasing choice for exterior bright trim packages. In leaf spring suspension systems, zinc interliners provide anti-fatigue cushioning to the steel springs allowing for a quieter ride. These suspension systems are currently found in commercial and passenger vans, sport utility vehicles and full-size trucks. Solid zinc strip spacers have successfully provided galvanic protection to automotive frame assemblies.
